Creating Marquetry with Straw, a French Practice

I have started to experiment with straw. I’s a very old and popular medium for marquetry in France. Working with straw requires some practice in special technique. I wanted to try it because of straw’s chatoyance. That means it has a wonderful shine that moves depending on your position.
Typically, the French create whole pieces using just straw. Of course I was wondering if incorporating wood veneer would be possible.
