Putting on a Smooth Finish

shared by Clark Cummings

Somewhere I ran across the idea of using auto polishing compound as the last step in finishing a marquetry project. I have used this recently on several small projects and have been quite pleased with the results.

After two or three coats of sanding sealer and three coats of brushed-on lacquer, I handrub the surface with polishing compound. It removes brushmarks and other imperfections from the surface, resulting in a very smooth and shiny finish.
