More about Pyrography with Marquetry
The PowerPoint slides begin with some background history of pyrography and a connection to it you perhaps remembered as a youngster. You initially need to see the power and beauty of some highly artistic pyrography pictures in order to see and appreciate its usefulness as it relates to our marquetry work. Next, is a look into the technique’s fundamentals in creating shading and shadows. Now that there is a sense of the what and how of pyrography, let’s look at the variety of tool types, tips/nibs, accessories, and costs connected to this equipment. Finally, I offer some tips, suggestions, and precautions when doing pyrography work.
As with anything you try for the first time, my biggest suggestion is to practice this technique over and over preferably with the same veneer species that will be in your picture. Patience and focus are key elements in coming out with a desirable piece. The biggest precaution I can offer is to do your pyrography work in a well-ventilated area, particularly with exotic veneer types because their fumes are often toxic. Find the right application for you and enjoy!
