Marquetry Show at the Loveland  Museum

Plans are underway for a marquetry show in 2026 at the art and history museum in Loveland, Colorado, 50+ miles north of Denver. The Loveland Museum has offered the guild the use of its Foote Gallery free of charge for three months, beginning July 11.

Museum staff will handle local advertising, including printed materials, at no cost to the guild.

In addition to wall art, a few small items of furniture may be included. A limited number of pedestals with glass covers are available for displaying small objects. Contributors have the choice of offering their work for sale with a 35% commission for the museum; items not for sale are also welcome.

President Fred Schmidt has led the planning effort so far, assisted by treasurer Clark Cummings and Sally Gumerman. Vice-president Scott Roth and guild co-founder Ellen Kisker will be joining them in this initial planning phase. Eventually plans will develop for demonstrations and workshop opportunities for young adults as well as adults.

Still to be decided is whether the show will be limited to work by guild members only.

Members interested in assisting with the show in any capacity should contact Fred Schmidt or Clark Cummings.

2024 – 2025 “Water” Marquetry Contest:

The latest AMS Marquetry contest is now under way! This contest tests your marquetry skills against other experts in the field.

The contest title “Water” refers to a marquetry picture
made by you with the primary or a significant element of the design clearly being water.

There are many ways to make water a major part of a picture. Your picture can be of an ocean, lake, stream, or waterfall where your skills in using veneer grain will be highlighted. Or there can be a placid lake or puddle highlighting an intricate reflection. Or you could show a glass container filled with water and fish. Or you could use your skills to show the refraction through a water-filled container of an object behind. There are different ways to design a marquetry picture with water as the theme.

This is your creation. You may choose to use only natural colored veneers, pre-dyed veneers, or a combination of the two. Be creative.
